The tradition of hanging mistletoe during Christmas dates back to the 1700s and originated in England. In those days, a man would pluck a berry each time he kissed a woman under the mistletoe. When the last berry was picked, the magic was said to be over, and kissing under the mistletoe for that season was complete.

Today, mistletoe is thought to bring luck and blessings when hung in the ceiling or a doorway during the holiday season.
